Pet Dental Care for a Healthier Life
Does your pet have bad breath? It could be a sign of periodontal, or dental, disease. While it is common (affecting about 76 percent of dogs and 68 percent of cats over three years of age, according to Banfield's 2016 report), it is also extremely dangerous if left untreated. It can cause a range of secondary problems including heart, kidney, and liver diseases that all develop from infected gums. At Roswell Veterinary Associates our skilled doctors have partaken in specialty training and continuing education in pet dental care, so you can trust us with your pet’s teeth.
Preventive Dental Care
With good dental hygiene that includes both regular at-home care and annual professional cleanings, you can prevent oral disease and its complications. Our professional and sophisticated cleaning procedures at Roswell Veterinary Associates remove tartar and treat inflamed gums and bad breath. We embrace pet dental care as a means to significantly improve the quality and longevity of your pet’s life.
Our comprehensive dental cleanings include:
- A thorough oral examination
- Digital dental radiographs
- Scaling and polishing of each tooth both above and below the gumline
Every dental procedure is done under general anesthesia, which gives us the ability to efficiently and thoroughly clean and examine your pet’s mouth. Safety is our primary concern. It also allows us to perform extractions of damaged or broken teeth at an additional cost. Before administering the anesthesia, we perform pre-anesthetic bloodwork to ensure your pet has had no recent changes in their health that could affect their reaction to anesthesia.
At-Home Care Packets and Advice
Every dental patient will be sent home with an at-home care plan catered to their needs (and your abilities!). We know that busy schedules, uncooperative pets and a myriad of other obstacles can hamper at-home pet dental care, so we offer a range of options. Dental chews, water additives, and other products are available to help your pet get the dental care they deserve.
